spense, and surprisingly, the sci-fi elements. I can't decide if the ending relates to escapism, acceptance, or something over my head. Either way, this will stay with me for a long time.

Definitely warrants a second read. For me, anyway. As do most of Murakami’s works. It deals with human consciousness and duality of personality. It confronts manipulation by the system. It challenges the notion of “bliss” and “perfection.” If we have no worries, are we really living? Does the whole of our identity lie in our mind? I skimmed it heavily, because I could not paste meaning out of every word till I had viewed it broadly. I want to read it again over winter break.

I would give this book 4.5 stars. It may have been 5 if my reading hadn't been interrupted so many times, because the story was fairly captivating and inventive. The "masculinity" of the narrator was a lot eye-roll inducing though.
